Street Fighter 3: Third
Strike
Tournament Wrap Up
Capcom Pentathlon Game 3
This tournament really brought
out some players that we haven't seen in a while including
Judgment Day, and the winner of our first pentathlon Trigon.
(Who now is going by TFS.) There was a lot of good competition
in this tournament.
The format for this tournament was as
follows; 4 pools of players play everyone else in there
pool. The best winning record automatically advances to
the finals. The second best record goes to a wild card
pool. In this tournament due to three three way ties for
second it was decided to eliminate the last chance pool, and all
three who tied would be in the largest ever wild card pool where we
would take the top four records to the finals. Here are
the results;
Pool 1
This is where all the trouble began with
the ties. One three way tie would have been ok but
three.......

Wildcard Pool
In the largest Wildcard Pool, the four
best records were supposed to advance. However there was
again a three-way tie for the fourth best record. Instead
of advancing them all I would allow them one more chance in a
three way tie breaker. In one of them could beat the other
two he would advance. If it ended in another tie then all
three would be eliminated.

Between Raul, Jason, and Taiyon they each had one win. In
the Wildcard Raul beat Jason, Jason beat Taiyon, and Taiyon beat Raul. In
the tie breaker it would be totally reversed. After Raul beat Taiyon,
Jason would beat Raul. Now if Jason could beat Taiyon Jason would advance
to the finals. If not then they would all go out as a tie. Taiyon
said if I am not going to the finals then know one will, and with that he beat
Jason.
Final Pool
Unlike most of the other rounds, there were no ties
here. TFS and Ali would get 1st and 3rd after coming out of
the Wildcard pool. Matt however would not find him self as
fortunate in the finals.

There were some great matches as usual in this
tournament here are how a few of them went down.
Liu Vs. John
In the first round of the first game
John would get the win in a very close round. In the
second round Liu would come back and win big. In the third
round however John would take one of the closest wins of the
night. Liu would tie things up with the second game,
and go on to win the match in the third game in another close
one.
Ali Vs. Liu
After Ali took the first
game, Liu would win the first round of the second game and
have a considerable lead on Ali in the second round. Ali
however came back from behind to tie up the game and went on to
win it in the third round.
Judgment Day Vs. Liu
Once again Liu taking attention
away from the other match with another interesting show.
Judgment Day used Alex and Liu used the rather strange
Twelve. Liu was able to tear right though Alex in the
first round. However JD was ready in the second round and
tied up the game. By the third round JD would return the
beating given to him in the first round. In the second
game Liu would go with Yang. JD would go on to win the
match however.
TFS Vs. John
John would get the victory of the
first game when he fired off the wrong move to finish of the
player formerly known as Trigon in a very close third
round. In the second game TFS would dominate the first
round, but John would take the second forcing the third
round. TFS would take the third round tying up the match
at two game each. In the third game TFS would win the mach
in another close ending.
Matt C Vs. Liu
Liu once again pleasing the crowd
as he used Twelve to take on Matt C's Alex. Liu would take
round one of game one and Matt would tie it up in round
two. In round three after Twelve morphed in to an Alex
look alike, Liu would take the first game. In the second
game instead of staying with who won him the first game.
Liu would switch to an even stranger character, Q. Most
everyone cheered Liu on as he used the odd Q to win the second
game and also the match.
TFS Vs. Judgment Day
This would be a rematch from the prelims
when JD beat TFS sending him to the Wildcard pool. Both
players would use Alex. It became a waiting game of sorts
as each player was watching the other waiting for them to make a
mistake. Time ran down as each player could only
take about another hit. With 8 seconds left TFS would make
his move and take, at least me as an observer by surprise, as he
hit JD and won the first round. TFS would take the second
round and take a one game lead over JD. In the first
round of the second match time once again played a factor as
there was round 15 seconds left. Once again TFS would take
the round. Now JD had his back against the wall.
With momentum on his side and playing a great game TFS would
take the second round, giving JD his only loss for the
tournament. TFS, (or the True Fist of Saginaw)
would take the tournament going undefeated in the finals.
Congrats to TFS and Judgment Day
for a great showing. Thanks to all those who came
out. Stay tuned to this web site as we continue to
give you coverage of the....
